Armies and Armour
The size of each army was about 5,00 to 7,000. Harold’s side had a wedged shaped form for their armies. They used spears and whatever weapon they had. Their best weapon was the battle-axe. The army fought on foot.
William’s army had a mix of archers, on foot soldiers and mounted knights. The soldiers would wear leather and chain mail if they could afford it. They wore helmets with nose guards and carried spears. They held sword and a kite shaped shield. Archers used a short bow.
